With the addition of Justin Upton the Braves deciding what Upton just not enough for -- they now have tested and BJ. Jimmie how does that change we were younger NL east power rankings as you go down a lot of the Braves now the team to be in the -- I saw the Washington Nationals as the team to beat 98 wins last year and they've gotten better this winter. And they're they're young -- is a year older and they gaining really valuable experience with a brief showing. In the post season Atlanta -- number two team. And the Philadelphia Phillies and number three on paper coming into the season. But you have to like that addition and Atlanta just enough to -- -- don't forget Jason -- that the dynamic. Young outfield. Three guys that could really be superstars of the Atlanta Braves had a real -- off season. You talked about -- the things have to go right for the Phillies certainly health probably the biggest if for this team because when you look at the lineup. Howard Utley whether or not they'll be ready go -- and of course the -- won a Cy Young at a Phillies uniform just recently. Roy Halladay let me ask you this what's more vital to the Phillies chances of contention. The health of Howard and Utley -- the help of one -- out. While I don't think the Phillies -- deep enough that I can pick one area. I think all three guys have to be clicking on all sit cylinders if you pushed me a little bit I'd probably say they need Howard and Utley because they're two guys -- you gonna play them every today. We're right how to get -- get thirty starts autumn but they really need all three guys click and I think we saw in the second half. Particularly in the final two months last season. When the Phillies play had a winning percentage percentage of about 59 -- and they had all their guys back to have Utley back they had our back. And then holiday back and not more really a 100%. But the Phillies still played pretty good ball if you can get these guys close to 100%. For full season I think the Phillies will be well served by that. And finally let's talk a little bit about the Phillies and their disposition coming into the season where -- -- this team that's being. Featured as the powerhouse in the nationally a contender year in year out when the -- it really over half decade now. That's not the case this time he liked them a little better as an. Off the radar team. I think everybody would like him that they were the favorite they're not. For the first time in a long time their underdog. Look back to quote Jimmy Rollins made around court Christmas time where he said we're a little angry we feel like we wanna go -- show that. Sure everybody this is still our division they said they have a chip on their shoulder is good for them I think that's a real healthy emotion come into camp. You know of as an excuse in Philly dot com Phillies insider. Jimmy Salisbury I column -- ball scribe for have a -- hairs.

    Sun, 19 May 2013

Phillies get to walk off way to cap off a winning homestand when the series against the reds died when you look at. How well this team played this week you know there were some ups and downs. He has been a big win and Charlie mine it's an absolutely huge went and not just for Charlie and and his mind that the team and its actual record because. And look they would they went through that scoring drought. From Saturn better from Friday night through Sunday and then all of a sudden sort of in a way that I don't think anybody expected. They all seem sort of surprised by it. Where they break out of that scoring slump and then not only break out of it but also win the game with with two harm could really they had two chances to have a walk off win. But Cliff Lee got stuck on first base help but it was a it was a good it was a good weekend from another strong outing for John some bad news that is when Ryan Howard he's got. Bad left knee and Charlie and doesn't expect him to play tomorrow also Carlos I haven't MRI. On Monday to determine what's up. With his hamstring how big are these injuries absolutely Brigham and when you look at a team that has struck despite the fact that they won the game on Sunday. They're team that struggled to score and those are two of your better bats. In that lineup and both Howard and grocery said that they were database so you don't know when you're gonna get these guys back it didn't sound like they were in any danger at least not a Howard's. Side of of being on the DL right now but right now nobody knows I but the good news is the next team up. Is those struggling shall we say the floundering fish the Miami Marlins the Phillies get to play them for three games even the bring. Back power forward in the five man rotation how do you like that are shaping up the least experience I think for the Phillies you gotta be pretty excited after coming off of a series where you were you squeak out this last one here after having his scoring John you see the Marlins had the the Marlins in the Mets have been. Sort of panacea for everything that ails the Phillies this season so for them. Then it's looking pretty good and certainly they have forgot what happened last on the face to face when they dropped the last two of four games at right here at Citizens Bank Park for John is Marshall Harris.
