Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins dominating at Double A Reading

If one of them doesn't get you, the other one will.

Reading sluggers Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins have already combined for 36 home runs this season, the most by any pair of teammates in the minor leagues. The “Baseballtown Bash Brothers” trail only the Orioles' duo of Mark Trumbo and Manny Machado (37 home runs) among all teammates in professional baseball.

Cozens and Hoskins lead the way for a Reading squad that enters Sunday with a 49-20 record is the best in all of baseball. And they are having the time of their lives.

“I think it’s the most fun I’ve ever had playing baseball,” said the 23-year-old Hoskins, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound first baseman, a fifth-round pick out of Sacramento State in 2014. “To be able to do the things we’re doing, the way we’re doing it, it just makes the game way better.”

The 22-year-old Cozens entered the week leading the Eastern League in runs, home runs, total bases and OPS, while also stealing 13 bases. That’s rare athleticism from a guy who is 6-6, 235. He’s intent on proving the Phillies made a wise investment when they chose him in the second round out of high school back in 2012. But above all, he wants to be known as a winner.

“You’ve got a lot of great players and a lot of coaches look at, you know, is he also a winner?” Cozens said. “That’s sometimes a factor that might get you called up or traded to a team that wants you. Being able to go out there and win, that you’ll do anything for your team to win a ballgame, that’s huge. That’s what they look for.”
