Gwynedd Mercy cross country runner gets leveled by deer, still finishes race

When running an 8K race, the biggest concern is usually about, you know, running for 8 kilometers. However, Gwynedd Mercy University senior and Limerick, Pa., native Justin DeLuzio had a lot more to worry about in his race last Saturday.

According to the Gwynedd Mercy University race recap, after finishing his first mile, DeLuzio was in the path of a herd of deer and was unfortunately struck and sent tumbling. Eric Bologa captured the moment and posted it on his Facebook page.

Who says Cross Country isn't a contact sport?

We are happy to report that despite sustaining bruises from the impact and fall, not only did DeLuzio finish the race, but he also did so in a time of 31:16, a 6:18 pace. Kudos also to fellow senior Matt French, from Bensalem, Pa., who stopped to make sure DeLuzio was OK and finished the race by his side.
