BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Isaiah Miles scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Saint Joseph's to an 84-66 win over George Washington Wednesday night, extending its road winning streak to nine games.

DeAndre Bembry scored 14 points, Shavar Newkirk and James Demery added 10 points apiece and Pierfrancesco Oliva hit three three-pointers for the Hawks (20-4, 9-2 Atlantic 10), who notched a key NCAA Tournament resume-building win.

But don't bother asking head coach Phil Martelli about whether he's started to think about his club's resume.

"Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope," Martelli said. "I'm hanging my hat on, we're undefeated on the road, and that is an unbelievable achievement in today's college basketball."

The Hawks improved to 9-0 on the road and recorded their ninth 20-win season under Martelli.

"What it is about the road, I don't know. They're just comfortable," Martelli said. "To come out against that team and have five turnovers was really kind of a special performance."

The Colonials on the other hand struggled after winning at VCU on Saturday. G.W. shot only 43.8 percent from the field, including 6 of 19 from three, and allowed the Hawks to shoot 56.7 percent, including 9 for 21 from deep. The Hawks never trailed.

"I think that G.W. was a little bit off, but when you win a game like they won on Saturday, maybe that's to be expected," Martelli said.

Saint Joseph’s led 39-32 at the half and came out with six straight points to take a 45-32 lead. GW answered with an 11-1 run to come within their smallest deficit of the game, 46-43.

Led by Demery and Lamarr Kimble (eight points), the Hawks' bench outscored the Colonials' 25-7.

"Every guy that played for us gave us something," Martelli said.

Leading by seven at halftime, the Hawks scored six straight to take a 45-32 lead. G.W. went on an 11-1 run to get within three, but St. Joe's answered with a 14-3 burst, capped by Miles' back-to-back threes and led 63-46 with 9:54 left.

"I just have a feel about this team, that they get it," Martelli said. "No moment has been too big all year long. It hasn't been too big for us."

The run started with a jump-hook by Bembry.

"When you take on the mantle and have me mouthing off that you're the best player in the league, that's the play that you make," Martelli said.

Kimble's layup sparked a 10-2 run and the Hawks led by 23, 84-61, with 1:47 to play and the Colonials got no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Tyler Cavanaugh scored 17 for George Washington (18-6, 7-4) and Patricio Garino added 12.

Next for St. Joe's is a Big 5 matchup with La Salle on Saturday night at Hagen Arena. The Explorers lost to Davidson, 79-66, Wednesday night.
