Jason Avant Agrees To Five-Year Deal

The Eagles officially have the core of their wide receivers locked up for at least the next two seasons, likely longer. The slot receiver and restricted free agent signed a multi-year extension with the Birds that would keep him in Philadelphia through 2014. Terms were not readily available.

'09 was a career year for Avant, hauling in 41 passes for 587 yards and three touchdowns, in the process becoming Donovan McNabb's most trusted set of hands in a pinch. He has a knack for catching third down passes, and basically anything else that hits him in the hands.

Though his production tapered off over the final five weeks, adding just eight receptions over the final five games, Avant has grown into a solid number three receiver. He is a reliable target who is excellent at finding holes in the zone, and who can make the occasional circus catch.

With DeSean Jackson looking to extend his current contract as well, the Eagles could soon have their top three receivers settled for at minimum the next four seasons.
