Ryan Fitzpatrick to start vs. Eagles for 5th different team

When Ryan Fitzpatrick steps onto the MetLife Stadium field and takes his first snap Sunday afternoon, he’ll achieve something nobody in NFL history has ever done.

Play quarterback against the Eagles for five different teams.

Fitzpatrick replaced Geno Smith as the Jets’ starting QB in August after Smith suffered a broken jaw when he was punched in the face by then-teammate IK Enemkpali.

In wins over the Browns and Colts so far this year, Fitzpatrick has completed 64 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Fitzpatrick has already started games against the Eagles for the Rams, Bengals, Bills and Texans.

He’s got a 1-2-1 record, beating the Eagles as a member of the Bills, losing as a Texan and Ram and playing to a tie with the Bengals in the game in which Donovan McNabb famously was playing for a second overtime.

In his five starts against the Eagles, Fitzpatrick will have faced five different quarterbacks — Mike McMahon, McNabb, Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Sam Bradford.

Another curious note: Sunday’s game will be Fitzpatrick’s fifth career appearance against the Eagles, and all five will have been road games for the Eagles. Fitzpatrick has never played in Philadelphia.

Fitzpatrick is currently one of seven quarterbacks to face the Eagles playing for four teams. The others are Steve Beuerlein, Kerry Collins, Rich Gannon, Jim Ninowski, Norm Snead and Vinny Testaverde.

The only quarterbacks to beat the Eagles playing for three different teams are Norm Snead, Brad Johnson and Chris Chandler.

Others to start against the Eagles for three different teams are Drew Bledsoe, Jeff George, Jeff Hostetler, Randy Johnson, Dave Krieg, Scott Mitchell, Kyle Orton and Kurt Warner.

Even with his two wins this year, Fitzpatrick still has only a 35-55-1 career won-loss record, and his .390 career winning percentage is lowest among all active quarterbacks with at least 50 starts.

In his four career appearances against the Eagles, Fitzpatrick has completed 73 of 122 passes (60 percent) with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Here’s a look at Fitzpatrick’s four career starts so far against the Eagles:

Fitzpatrick had the second-most accurate game of his career in his only career win over the Eagles, completing 21 of 27 attempts for 193 yards with one TD and one interception (Jamar Chaney).

Eagles 31, Texans 21, Nov. 2, 2014
NRG Stadium
Fitzpatrick completed 13 of 27 passes for 203 yards with two TD passes and one interception (DeMeco Ryans on the play he tore his Achilles). The game was Nick Foles’ final start as an Eagle.
