Tim Frazier starts in what may be last game with Sixers

It was another baptism by fire for the newly-signed point guard Tim Frazier on Monday night.

Signed to a 10-day contract on Feb. 5, Frazier made his second straight start in just his third NBA game for the injured Michael Carter-Williams. But after facing Boston and Charlotte last weekend, Frazier had his work cut out for him on Monday night.

This time Frazier was matched up against All-Star Stephen Curry, who not only came in averaging 23.6 points per game and 7.9 assists, but also entered second in the NBA with 2.12 steals per game.

“I just have to give it my all, because it could be my last game,” Frazier said pregame, noting that his 10-day contract expires during the All-Star break.

Frazier had never been matched up against Curry or his backcourt partner, Klay Thompson, who came in averaging 22.4 points per game and had an NBA record 37 points in a quarter during a game last month. If Monday’s game proves to be Frazier’s last with the Sixers, he’ll have something to remember in going up against “The Splash Brothers.”

“I watch film and they make tremendous shots,” Frazier said. “The last month they’ve had amazing games, so my job is to go out there and just do what the team needs to win."

The Sixers won Saturday’s game when Frazier was the starting point guard with Carter-Williams out with an injured muscle beneath his right big toe. Frazier handed out eight assists in the victory over Charlotte after dishing for 11 assists in his NBA debut.

After two NBA games, Frazier’s 19 assists are the second-most in NBA history for a player over that span. However, Frazier shot just 2 for 16 in those games and is more impressed with the win than the numbers.

“I’m more impressed with getting the win [Saturday],” Frazier said. “I’m all about the team, so anything I can do for the team is a big deal.”
