At the event on January 11, eight local children representing the urgent needs of the March of Dimes will be presented with their awards from players from the Philadelphia 76ers, Eagles, Flyers, Phillies and Union.  A special video presentation will be shown which documents the child’s remarkable life and their day spent with their favorite athlete. These children honorees include:

The Alumni's fundraising goals are accomplished through a variety of fundraising events, such as the annual Alumni Golf Invitational and Fantasy Hockey Camp and through benefit hockey games involving the Flyers Alumni Team. Additionally, members of the Flyers Alumni annually volunteer their time for community outreach programs and are regular attendees at school programs and civic events.  The Flyers Alumni announced a new initiative to honor Ed Snider by building a new ice rink.  Together working with Snider Youth Hockey, the Alumni pledged to raise $2 million dollars towards the construction and completion of the Edward M. Snider Ice Rink.
Those attending Shining Star Awards gala will have the opportunity to meet the honorees and bid on sports and entertainment packages, autographed memorabilia, hotel packages and once in a lifetime opportunities including the Shining Star Package featuring four VIP tickets to the five sports teams and behind the scenes experiences, plus autographed team jerseys.
The Greater Delaware Valley Audi Dealers has signed on a presenting sponsor for the 2017 event.
Philadelphia is proud to be the home of one of five March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers, a nationwide network bringing the best and brightest minds together to work and share information. The March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania joins centers at Stanford University, the Ohio Collaborative, Washington University in St. Louis and the final center, collaboration among the University of Chicago, Northwestern and Duke.
