Philadelphia 76ers' President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo joined Adrian Wojnarowski on his Vertical podcast to talk at length about the state of the Sixers heading into an exciting 2016-2017 season.

The two spoke for about an hour so there's a ton to process. You can listen to the whole thing right here.

If you followed the stories that came out of Brett Brown's media luncheon last week, Colangelo's chat with Woj echoes much of the same sentiment. Although Colangelo didn't seem to think as highly of the team culture that was in place before his arrival in town.

"There was a losing culture," Colangelo said of the Sixers before he arrived. "There was a losing mindset. It had been ingrained partly due to the undertaking of rebuilding that they had been going through."

"It becomes part of the fabric of the team," he said. "I think more than anything the mindset needed to shift, the mindset needed to change. And that's why we've been talking about winning. Doing everything we can to promote winning, to promote a culture of exelence."

Colangelo also talks about having very little interest in coming to the organization and working under Sam Hinkie, as was first discussed.

"The first time that I met with David Blitzer and Josh Harris I basically told them I'm not the guy for this job. I suggested a few other people, one in particular that I thought would be ideal, to come in and compliment Sam to help take this thing to that next level. They were a little bit stunned at my reaction and my suggestion."

Somewhere along the way over the course of the next couple months, the Sixers' approach changed.

"Their approach changed," Colangelo said. "And obviously their approach, it wouldn't be me coming in to work underneath Sam, it would be me coming in to be the lead in basketball operations. And work with Sam in another regard. That was of interest to me. That's what I thought my strong suit was to lead an organization in that regard. Jerry was not involved in that process at all."

While Bryan says he didn't have interest in working under Sam, he did credit his predecessor for setting him up with a bevy of assets.

"Credit Sam for what he was able to accomplish. He maybe took thinks to an extreme but you're starting to see those things play out."

Oh, and maybe Bryan bought a little bit of lottery luck along with him.

"They didn't have much success in the lottery the first few years. I don't want to say it was my lucky touch, because I don't believe in that necessarily. We come in an ultimately win the lottery and get the number one pick so that played out nicely for me and for the new management team in place."
