Phillies special ‘Players Weekend' uniforms feature dope hat, lackluster jersey

When the Phillies play the Cubs at Citizen’s Bank Park August 25-27, both teams are going to look very different.

In a joint venture by the MLB and the MLBPA, the first “Players Weekend” has been announced, giving players a vastly different look and the ability to use nicknames on the backs of their jerseys.

First, the look.

More reserved than some of the other MLB teams, the Phillies will be in these home white jerseys with a large Phillies 'P', while the Cubs will sport a two-toned blue with a large Cubs logo.

The hat is a bit more of a deviation from the normal look.

The hat the Phillies will wear for Players Weekend is red with a baby blue Liberty Bell, which will likely be a big hit at the team store that weekend.

Here’s how all 32 teams will look in their new uniforms.

Finally, perhaps the biggest change of the weekend is that players will be able to wear nicknames across the back of their jerseys. Diego Ettedgui Lacau, communications representative and Spanish interpreter for the Phillies provided this sneak peek at the names the Phillies picked to appear on the backs of their jerseys.

Some players, Nola and Nava, chose to keep things classic with their last name, but others, really got creative with their names. Aaron Altherr appears to pay homage to the famous Key & Peele Substitute Teacher skit with A-Aron, Nick Williams will be known as Nicky Dubs and Ricardo Pinto shall be known as Pinto Bean. Others like Odubel Herrera, Andres Blanco and Tommy Joseph chose names we are familiar with as they went with Torito, Whitey and Tojo.

Players will also be able to customize their cleats and bats throughout the weekend, so there’s sure to be a lot of interesting looks out on Major League diamonds that weekend.
