Scratch off Bill OBrien from the Eagles list of potential head coaches.
Penn States football coach has decided to remain at the school, according to a report from Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL radio, and will not be interviewing with any more NFL teams.
OBrien this week had met with the Browns, according to a report by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and on Thursday with the Eagles, according to a team spokesman.
OBrien told the Harrisburg Patriot-News that hes committed to the Nittany Lions, who he took over last year as coach after the school fired legendary coach Joe Paterno amid a child sex abuse scandal involving a former Paterno assistant.
"I'm not a one-and-done guy," O'Brien said. "I made a commitment to these players at Penn State and that's what I am going to do. I'm not gonna cut and run after one year, that's for sure."
One of the major obstacles to getting O'Brien was a hefty 9 million buyout that was reported to be as high as 19 million.
The Eagles will now shift their focus to Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who they are scheduled to meet with Sunday, and will reportedly stop first in Phoenix to meet with University of Oregon coach Chip Kelly.
The Browns, headed by former Eagles president Joe Banner, are also reportedly interviewing Kelly, heralding a potential bidding war between Banner and Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie for Kellys services.
The Eagles, who have already interviewed Falcons assistants Mike Nolan and Keith Armstrong, arent commenting on their interest in any college coaches. Lurie, president Don Smolenski and general manager Howie Roseman are conducting the interviews.
Theres no reason to believe the Eagles are prepared to make Kelly -- or anyone else -- an instant offer. After firing coach Andy Reid on Monday, Lurie said the crop of talented potential head coaches is abundant and the Eagles can only speak right now with college coaches and NFL assistants. They cant speak with any NFL assistants who currently coach for teams that dont have playoff bye weeks and they must first ask permission to avoid tampering penalties.
