Villanova guard Dylan Ennis announced he will transfer from the school and hopes to use his last year of eligibility elsewhere in 2015-16.
Ennis, who started all 36 games for Villanova’s 33-3 squad, will depart the school after he graduates in May.
Though he hasn’t settled on a school for next season, Ennis’ desire is to play as a traditional point guard, a role not likely available at Villanova next season with Ryan Arcidiacono slated to return for his senior season and McDonald’s All-American Jalen Brunson to enter the school next fall.
Brunson is expected to see a lot of time at point guard next season.
“Dylan is interested in finding a program that will allow him to play the role of a traditional point guard so he can be the primary ball-handler,” coach Jay Wright said in a statement released by the school. “We support Dylan and thank him for all of his efforts as a student and athlete at Villanova.”
Because Ennis is set to graduate next month, he will be eligible to play for whichever program he chooses. He also is transferring for a second time. Ennis enrolled at Villanova after transferring from Rice University in Houston.
Ennis averaged 9.9 points per game and shot 36.3 percent from three-point range last season.
