Food poisoning lands Eagles receiver Zach Pascal in hospital

Zach Pascal was hospitalized on Sunday after being stricken with a particularly severe bout of food poisoning last week, but Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said the veteran receiver is starting to feel better.

Pascal has not practiced yet in training camp, which began last Wednesday. Pascal tweeted on Thursday that he was suffering food poisoning. He’s now missed the first four practices and the first six days of camp.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Pascal was still in the hospital on Monday morning, but Sirianni – who also coached him with the Colts – said he’s on the mend.

Pascal, who caught 150 passes for 1,888 yards and 15 touchdowns in four years in Indianapolis, signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Eagles in March.

“He is feeling better,” Sirianni said before practice. “He went through some things with his stomach, not feeling real good, and it’s lingered a little bit more than we would like and obviously than Zach would like.

“So looking forward to getting him back. Don’t have a timetable for you, but he’s on the up.”

Rookie tight end Grant Calcaterra, a sixth-round pick out of SMU, suffered a hamstring injury near the end of practice on Saturday.

“I’ll never put a timetable on how long (a player) will be out,” Sirianni said. “We’ll probably play him conservative as far as his recovery so we don’t have a setback there. He was having a good camp and making some plays. He’s got pretty good instincts. We look forward to getting him back.”

Milton Williams, who missed practice Saturday after suffering an elbow injury Friday, was out at practice Monday morning with his helmet.

“He’s sore,” Sirianni said. “He was sore the day after it happened, and yesterday’s day off should have been good for him.”
