Kiko Alonso in Florida until Friday, not yet a candidate for IR

Kiko Alonso is still in Florida, where he met with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews earlier this week, and will remain there until Friday, according to Eagles head coach Chip Kelly.

Kelly said Wednesday Alonso has not had surgery on his ailing left knee and that, as of now, he is not "an injured reserve candidate-type."

The inside linebacker is dealing with what Kelly last week called a left knee sprain.

There is significant cause for concern here because Alonso tore the ACL in that knee last summer, missed the 2014 season, missed the first two preseason games after being acquired by the Eagles, was scratched from the third with knee tendinitis, left the Week 2 loss to the Cowboys, and missed Week 3 against the Jets.

The fact that he's been in Florida all week around a world-renowned surgeon suggests this is no minor issue.

Alonso will continue to rehab the knee this week in Florida before returning to Philadelphia on Saturday.

Alonso will not play in Week 4 against the Redskins, which means rookie third-rounder Jordan Hicks should continue to receive reps at inside 'backer even if Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) returns.
