With the 16th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select Marreese Speights, a PF from Florida. We weren't really sure which big man the Sixers were going to select with guys like Darrell Arthur, Roy Hibert, and Kosta Koufos still available.
The 16th pick is typically a crap shoot but this is Ed Stefanski's first chance to show he knows how to evaluate the young guys. NBA.com has this to say about Speights' strengths : "Extremely big and strong but surprisingly quick and athletic. Has great
hands and some effective go-to moves on offense. Competes hard on the
boards and on the defensive end, using his long wingspan to block shots."
