Mike Knuble, Former Flyer-Flyer Killer

Share

In last night's Flyers loss to the Capitals, former Flyer Mike Knuble gave everyone in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center another great look at the player we once called our own. His goal and two assists were obviously a huge part of the Caps' offense for the night, as well as a reminder of that sinking feeling we all got when he left town for Washington. This was exactly the kind of night we feared, with the Caps winning and Knuble contributing to 75% of their offense, including his undressing of Sean O'Donnell and trademark crease-crashing goal. Video below.

The play starts with Knuble in the Flyers' defensive zone, with three orange jerseys his only company for a moment after a nice outlet play. He slams on the brakes as O'Donnell meets him, chips the puck in deep to where his linemates have penetrated, then does what we came to love him for—goes straight for the net.

At first I found myself bitching out Odie (ya know, from my living room) for getting beaten one on one so soundly. But then I remembered that a motivated Knuble is a tough draw for exactly this reason. Andrej Meszaros didn't get to Jason Chimera behind the net, and Sergei Bobrovsky didn't know what hit him until the puck was over the line. After the game, Mike Morreale of NHL.com said that Knuble gave his stick to a fan on his way off the ice. Goddamnit I miss that guy being on our side. Stupid salary cap.
