The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off OTAs yesterday and while the media didn't get to watch the activities on the field they did have the opportunity to chat with a couple of players. CSN's Derrick Gunn caught up with undrafted rookie kicker Carey Spear, better known on the Internet by his badass nickname "Murderleg."

Spear earned the nickname while at Vanderbilt because a couple of brutal hits he made on returners after kick offs.

He talked yesterday about a few of those bone-crunching hits he's made, including the one against Tennessee which he says he doesn't remember, "I got a little bit of a concussion on that one."

But the question we're all curious about, where did the nickname originate from?

From CSN:

The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Spear isn't quite sure where the name came from.

"I don't know. I think it popped up on a blog," Spear told CSN's Derrick Gunn. "But the city (Nashville) seemed to embrace it a little bit. Never had that nickname before, but it's OK."

Proof that blogs can do anything. Like make up ridiculous nicknames for athletes in college that can follow them all the way through their pro careers.
