NFC East Notes: Claiborne, RG3 still unsigned

It was a sad Saturday for Eagles faithful.

Former Eagles punterkicker King Hill died at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer (see story).

On a more positive note, the Birds will open up training camp on July 23.

With camp about a week away, one wonders if the pieces will finally come together for the Eagles (see story).

Here is what is going on with the rest of the NFC East:
Claiborne will report to camp with or without contract
Cowboys 2012 first-round draft pick Morris Claiborne hasnt signed a contract, but the defensive back still plans on showing up for the start of training camp.

Ill patiently wait, Claiborne told the Shreveport Times (via ProFootballTalk). Im not in no hurry. You hear a lot of talk about people saying Im holding out. No, Im not holding out. Im going to camp signed or not signed. It dont matter.

Part of the reason why Claiborne is so adamant about attending training camp may have something to do with his wrist.

The LSU product had surgery in March to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist, which forced him to miss the off-season training program.

Said Claiborne, I cant wait. Its been a while because of my wrist, so far so good. Its getting healthy and Im ready for camp to start.

Griffin still looking for contract
Robert Griffin III remains unsigned even though he was drafted more than two months ago.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk (via CSNWashington), Griffin is hoping to get a deal done with the Redskins by Monday, the day rookies are scheduled to report to training camp.

But at this point in the process, both sides appear to be at a standstill.

The two sides continue to grapple over the presence of offset language in the four-year deal, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations, wrote Florio.

So, despite the fact that Griffin has been a Redskin since Aprils draft, he won't officially begin his career until a contract is successfully negotiated.

Spencer to play season under franchise tag
Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer has decided to play the 2012 season under the franchise tag.

Spencers agent Jordan Woy, writes Pro Football Talk, said he is done negotiating with the team on a long-term deal for his client.

Under the franchise tag, Spencer will make 8.84 million this year.

Woy is not ruling out possibly negotiating a new deal during the season.

We will start the season with his current contract, Woy told ESPNDallas.com. We will see what happens during the season. Im sure we will have a discussion before the season ends.

But, as Pro Football Talk points out, no deal can be signed between the two parties until after the season, which should put some pressure on Spencer to have a big year so he can maximize his value next off-season.
