Nittany Lions Finally Conquer Wolverines

Our PSU student correspondent Ali chimes in on Saturday night's Michigan game.
I woke up on a beautiful sunny day in Happy Valley and
joined the rest of the devoted tailgaters surrounding Beaver Stadium, hoping to
see the #3 ranked Nittany Lions keep the National Championship dream alive. I
got to the fields around 1:00 and shortly after I was making a pilgrimage to Jager
shots. We rounded the troops from our 30 person tailgate and made our way
across the fields to an event known as “communion”. Every hour on the half hour
the large crowd receives a shot of Jager as the leader of the pack stands on a
podium and conducts the onlookers through the Penn State fight song, along with
many other chants (even Michigan’s fight song out of respect for the opponent).
Just another unique tailgating ritual thought up by Penn State faithful.  We made our way back to our original tailgate where
I enjoyed spending time with my family who had all come up from Delco, Jersey,
Maryland, and even my oldest brother who flew in from his home in the Cayman
Islands for homecoming weekend. Then finally, it was game time.

The student whiteout was once again in full force, but with
a different look to the renowned “S-Zone” which celebrated a throwback to Penn
State’s original colors, black and pink. The Wolverines, however, put a dent in
the 110, 017 fan mania that was the 4th largest crowd ever at Beaver
Stadium as they quickly took a 10-0 lead, making Penn State look terrible.

Much to Michigan fans' dismay, JoePa’s boys answered back. The relentless Penn State defense did not give up a point
in the 2nd half, and the offense bounced back from the slow start,
scoring on every possession in the 2nd half.

Evan Royster was an
absolute animal, putting up career high yardage and running his way to a
perfect 8-0 Nittany Lion record. Both the offensive and defensive line
dominated again as they faced a Michigan team that just could not keep up. And finally,
after 12 years of waiting, PSU fans can stop holding their breath – the streak
is broken with a 46-17 victory.

This team is bound for a National Championship. If they take
care of Ohio State next weekend in Columbus, I am confident they are a lock.
