The Olympic men's hockey tournament got underway on Wednesday in Sochi, Russia with two of the Flyers' five representatives taking the ice.

Mark Streit assisted on the lone goal of the game with just seconds remaining in Switzerland's 1-0 win over Latvia. Jakub Voracek had four shots on goal but finished minus-1 in Czech Republic's 4-2 loss to Sweden.

Here are recaps of the games:

Late goal gives Switzerland win
SOCHI, Russia -- Simon Moser scored with 7.9 seconds left, lifting Switzerland to a 1-0 win over Latvia on Wednesday in the Olympic opener for both hockey teams.

Moser was credited with the game-winning goal that appeared to carom off a Latvian player in front of the net.

Edgars Masalskis made 38 saves, stopping shots with every part of his body.

The Latvians haven't lasted longer than the preliminary round the previous three Olympics, ranking 12th in the last two and ninth in 2002. They pushed the Czechs to overtime in a qualification match before losing at the Vancouver Games.

The Swiss advanced to the quarterfinals in 2010 and 2006 and they have a chance to upset some teams with more talent with Jonas Hiller in net.

Hiller made 21 saves (see full recap).

Karlsson, Sweden cruises past Czech Republic
SOCHI, Russia -- Erik Karlsson scored two goals in his Olympic debut, captain Henrik Zetterberg added a goal and Sweden beat the Czech Republic 4-2 Wednesday night in preliminary-round play in men's hockey.

Patrik Berglund also scored, and Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves as the Swedes opened the tournament in Sochi with a display of their deep offensive talent.

Sweden scored four times on its first 11 shots, chasing Czech goalie Jakub Kovar from the ice at the Bolshoy Ice Dome and taking a 4-0 lead early in the second period.

Jaromir Jagr scored a goal in his fifth Olympics, and Marek Zidlicky also scored for the Czechs.

Karlsson, the Ottawa Senators' standout young defenseman, scored the opening goal 10 minutes in and added a power-play goal early in the second period (see full recap).
