Owen Schmitt's Off-Season Includes Playing Guitar With the Davisson Brothers

The Eagles and their fans were terrified to see popular and talented fullback Leonard Weaver go down with a season-ending injury (we hope that's all) in the first game of the 2010 season. Big Weav was an instantaneously popular addition to the team at an often-overlooked position this city loves to see played well. However, his replacement on the field, Owen Schmitt, seemed tailor-made for popularity here as well. Anyone who knew Schmitt from his college days at West Virginia or his time with the Seahawks knows of his penchant for smashing his helmet into his own head to get pumped up. Not surprisingly, he's still beloved in West Virginia, where he's also been playing some guitar with WV country rock band The Davisson Brothers.

Schmitt will play with the Davisson Brothers at his own birthday bash tonight at the Morgantown Event Center in WV. He has also teamed up with the band to record a new song for the Mountaineers. Video from a previous Schmitt/Davisson Brothers show below, as well as a clip on the band and the new Mountaineers song.

Here's Schmitt doing a little Black Betty in February 2010.

And some love from the local news .

I found a more recent clip, shot this week, but the audio was pretty unlistenable because it was recorded on a phone. Several more on YouTube if you're interested.
