Pope Francis featured on Phillies baseball card

Forget angels in the outfield, the Phillies are going right to God's right-hand man on earth. But does Pope Francis even have the power to save this team?

Fans attending tonight's game against the Washington Nationals will receive a special, very holy treat to add to their collection.

"In honor of Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to celebrate the World Meeting of Families Congress, fans may pick up a commemorative Phillies Pope Rookie Card at the First Base and Third Base Kiosks," the Phillies said in a release.

Media members got a first look at the cards last night. I have some concerns about the Phillies going after a seemingly position-less rookie:

Francis is, of course, a big soccer fan with his favorite team reportedly being Argentinian club San Lorenzo. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that out of all of the fans in Philly, Pope Francis would get along best with Union fans.

"In Italy, like in my country, too, in Argentina, there's the risk of always talking about soccer and neglecting all the other sports," he said in May.

Yeah, not in Philadelphia, pont.

Anyway, just one reason to head to the ballpark tonight.

There's no word though on whether or not Papa Francis will bless Sam Bradford's knees while he's in town next week.
