Ray's Replies: A ‘true' Eagles fan speaks out

Share

Q. Ive been reading all your e-mails and I have to say a lot of what Ive been reading for months now has me quite disturbed. Im speaking about all the mail you post and respond to about fans turning their backs on the team, rooting for the Eagles to lose or saying they are going to find a new team to root for next year.

How can you be a true fan and say those things? The true die-hard fans like me stick with their team through thick and thin. We all get frustrated or mad or downright disgusted at times, but you dont turn your back on the team. Maybe you hate the coach, the owner or the way they draft or do things, but you dont turn your back on them if you are truly a loyal fan.

What really disturbs me are the ones who live in Philadelphia or the ones who are season-ticket holders. Sure, maybe you feel like youve been cheated when you go to every game and you see the product on the field and feel disdain for ownership. But you know what? A lot of people would kill for the chance to have season tickets, even bad seats. I know I would.

I dont even live in Philly. I live in upper South Jersey, but I was born and raised an Eagles fan and will always be. I will never turn my back on the team no matter how poorly they do or how I feel about the coaches or ownership. I used to believe that Eagles fans were the most loyal and passionate of any team. Now I doubt that.

I would love for you to tell me that these people are in the minority. I hope you post this e-mail in its entirety to remind those people what it means to be a true fan. An Eagles fan.

A. Mike, I did what you asked and posted your letter in its entirety. While you obviously are a true Eagles fan and your unswerving devotion to the team is admirable, you have to realize people are allowed to get frustrated when a team performs as poorly as the Eagles did this season.
