Reading Fightin Phils drop Game 5, lose ELCS to Bowie

The Reading Fightin Phils' season has come to an end after a 7-2 loss to the Bowie Baysox in Game 5 of the Eastern League Championship Series on Saturday night.

Reading went with Reinier Roibal to start the game. Roibal started five games for Reading this season, but hadn't done so since July 16.

Early on, the "bullpen game" idea paid off. Roibal got through the first three innings cleanly and the Fightin Phils got an early lead on a solo homer by outfielder Cameron Perkins in the top of the fourth.

The lead was short-lived, however, as second baseman Garabez Rosa put the Baysox in front with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame. Roibal's night was finished after 4 1/3. He gave way to Edubray Ramos.

In the sixth, it was Rosa striking again, this time with a solo homer off Ramos to extend Bowie's lead to 3-1. Catcher Rene Garcia answered with a solo shot of his own in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to one.

From there it was all Baysox. Outfielder Quincy Latimore stroked a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to extend Bowie's lead to 5-2. Hard-throwing righty Jimmy Cordero struggled in his appearance, giving up three earned runs and walking three in 1 1/3 innings.

The Baysox would go on to add a run in the eighth and one more on a J.P. Crawford error in the ninth.

The Fightin Phils had jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the ELCS only to drop the last two games.

With Reading's season over, there is a chance a player or two could be called up to join the Phillies for the last 13 games of the season.
