Red Zone Defense, Missed FG's Combine to Doom Eagles

Share

The fate of yet another Eagles postseason was sealed by an interception. Green Bay came into the Linc and ended the Eagles season 21-16. An improbable 10-6 regular season full of excitement and incredible moments came to an end for many reasons.

Time and again the Eagles defense was unable to get off the field. The Packers converted an incredible 8 of 13 third down opportunities. Unable to run the ball all season long Green Bay gashed the Eagles for 138 yards on the ground.

The offense was out of sorts for most of the night. Desean Jackson suffered an early knee injury which limited his effectiveness. The offensive line struggled, particularly right tackle Winston Justice. Incredibly, Justice committed three separate penalties over the course of just two plays.

The normally reliable David Akers missed two field goal attempts - one of which was a 34 yarder in the fourth quarter. Not The D.A.'s finest hour.

Despite the miscues, the inability to get off the field defensively, the lack of rhythm on offense, and the missed field goals the Eagles were in position to win the game. Michael Vick moved the Eagles inside the Green Bay 30 with under a minute left.

Tramon Williams extinguished any lingering hope when he established inside position on Riley Cooper and picked off Mike Vick's pass in the front of the end zone.

21-16 final.

Game over.
