Seth Rosin could stay with Phillies for little while

The assumption when the Phillies announced Saturday's roster move, selecting the contract of reliever Seth Rosin from Triple A to replace Phillippe Aumont on the 25-man roster (see story), was that Rosin would be up for just the day.

The Phils, after all, need to make a corresponding roster move prior to Sunday's game when they officially add Adam Morgan to start against the Cardinals.

But not so fast, manager Ryne Sandberg said Saturday. The Phils' overworked and mostly underperforming bullpen could use Rosin for a little while, even despite the right-hander allowing five runs on seven hits in two innings of work during Saturday night's 10-1 loss (see game story).

"Chances are we'll need him for a little stretch here," Sandberg said of Rosin before Saturday's game. "We'll decide that as we go forward."

Rosin had a 2.65 ERA at Triple A with 28 strikeouts and 10 walks in 37 1/3 innings. He pitched more than an inning in 14 of his 26 appearances, including 10 outings of at least two innings. Rosin held right-handers to a .207 batting average in 87 at-bats.

"I like his moving fastball and ability to get ground balls," Sandberg said. "He really mixes his secondary pitches well."
