Thad Young at the Jordan Classic

On draft day, you may have been a little surprised to hear the name of Thaddeus Young called at the 12 spot. Like me, you probably expected the Sixers to move up (and we know they tried), or if they stayed at 12, to take Julian Wright or Al Thornton if they were still on the board. Most of what I've heard after the draft is that Young could develop into a solid player, but he's not as ready to step in this season as Wright or Thornton, and definitely doesn't fill a position of need for the Sixers in the near-term, but most experts agreed that it wasn't a bad pick. I liked what little I saw of him at Tech, and from this highlight reel of his play during the Jordan Classic, he can definitely fly. With the Sixers not expected to contend for much more than a chance at a playoff seed in the next year (or two, or...), the Webber and McKie loot coming off the books after the season, and a deeper free agency class next year (Insider), maybe a project pick was a good idea. I'm choosing to be positive about it. Watch the grainy video, relax, wait for early dismissal for the 4th.
