BOX SCORE

NEW YORK — The Phillies unleashed a season’s worth of frustration on the New York Mets in a 14-8 win Tuesday night.

The victory snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Mets. The Phils are now 2-13 against the Mets this season and 1-8 at Citi Field.

The Phillies’ 14 runs were a season high. Six of those runs were unearned as the Mets played sloppy defense. But after 10 straight losses to the Mets, the Phillies weren’t about to complain.

The Mets still lead the NL East at 73-59. The Phillies still have baseball’s worst record at 53-80.

Starting pitching report
Aaron Harang took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but did not handle it with care. He allowed four runs in the inning, two on a mammoth home run by Yoenis Cespedes, and did not make it out of the inning.

Harang’s ERA over his last 15 starts (since May 24) is 7.04.

Mets lefty Jonathon Niese was tagged for seven hits, including a three-run homer, and six runs in five innings of work.

Bullpen report
Despite adding relievers Colton Murray and Dalier Hinojosa to the roster to the roster earlier in the day (see story), manager Pete Mackanin used standbys Jeanmar Gomez and Luis Garcia in the blowout. The Phillies supposedly added these relievers to help a tired bullpen. After the game, Mackanin said he went with experience because he really wanted to snap the losing streak against the Mets.

Mets right-hander Bobby Parnell entered with his team down two runs in the sixth and promptly walked two batters and committed a throwing error. He did not get an out, was charged with three runs and was booed off the mound.

At the plate
Darin Ruf had a big night with a three-run homer and a pair of singles. He drove home a career-high six runs.

Darnell Sweeney, acquired from the Dodgers in the Chase Utley trade, got the start in center field and had an RBI single and a two-run double.

Cespedes hit his 27th homer of the season and ninth in 29 games with the Mets.

In the field
The Mets made three errors.

Minor matters
After spending months rehabbing his shoulder, Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez (remember him?) made his first Triple A start of the season Tuesday night against the Pawtucket Red Sox. It did not go well as he gave up five runs in three innings. Gonzalez, who turns 29 later this month, is nearing the end of the second year of a three-year, $12 million contract. The Phillies essentially admitted the signing to be a mistake when they waived him from the 40-man roster in spring training. Gonzalez went unclaimed and was assigned to the minor leagues.

In more promising minor-league matters, the Phillies will send seven prospects, including shortstop J.P. Crawford, to the Arizona Fall League (see story).

Up next
Aaron Nola (5-1, 3.26) makes his ninth big-league start Wednesday night against hard-throwing Mets right-hander Matt Harvey (11-7, 2.48).
