BOX SCORE

TORONTO — Rookie Adam Morgan delivered a quality start, the offense clicked for one inning and the new-look bullpen put up zeroes as the Phillies continued their winning ways with a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night.

The Phillies rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit for the win. They are 9-1 since the All-Star break, which matches their best-ever start to a second half. They also went 9-1 after the break in 1970.

The big news Tuesday was the trade of closer Jonathan Papelbon to the Washington Nationals (see story). The deal moved Ken Giles into the closer’s role. Jeanmar Gomez and Luis Garcia pitched scoreless ball in the seventh and eighth innings before Giles registered his second major-league save with a scoreless ninth.

Starting pitching report
The lefty Morgan gave up a solo homer in the first inning and another run in the second. He then rang up four scoreless innings and left with the lead. He is 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA in six big-league starts.

Toronto’s Felix Dubront was tagged for four hits and three runs in the fifth inning. Three of the hits were doubles.

Bullpen report
The trio of Gomez, Garcia and Giles got the job done for the Phillies.

LaTroy Hawkins, acquired by Toronto from Colorado on Monday, pitched a scoreless inning. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, also picked up in that deal, will join the Jays in time for Wednesday night’s game.

At the plate
The Phillies strung together four straight hits, a single and three doubles, in rallying for three runs in the fifth inning. Ryan Howard reached on a check-swing infield single and Darin Ruf, Cody Asche and Andres Blanco each doubled. Asche had a two-run double and Blanco drove in one run.

The Phils have 24 extra-bases hits in their last four games.

Transaction
The Phillies traded Papelbon to the Washington Nationals for a Double A pitching prospect. Papelbon becomes the Nationals’ closer. Cole Hamels could be the next Phillie to go. If Hamels stays with the Phils beyond Friday’s 4 p.m. trade deadline, he will pitch Friday night in Philadelphia. The Phils moved him back in anticipation of a possible deal.

Health check
Aaron Harang will make a minor-league rehab start for Triple A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday night.

Up next
Jerome Williams (3-7, 6.28) opposes R.A. Dickey (4-10, 4.53) in the series finale on Wednesday night in Toronto.
