As expected, the Eagles have signed veteran offensive guard John Moffitt to a one-year deal and released rookie free agent guard Cole Manhart.

CSNPhilly.com on Thursday confirmed a FoxSports.com report that the Eagles intended to sign the former Seahawks lineman.

Moffitt, a former third-round pick of Seattle who was previously retired and missed all of 2014, hasn’t played since being active for two games for the Broncos in 2013. He recently returned to football and last week cleared waivers, allowing the Eagles to sign him after administering a physical Monday.

Moffitt, 28, has apparently put behind him a troubled past, which included a 2011 four-game suspension by the league for violating its performance-enhancing drug policy and a 2014 arrest in March on drug possession and battery charges.

The Eagles are looking to bolster their interior offensive line after releasing veteran right guard Todd Herremans in February and earlier this month releasing two-time Pro Bowl left guard Evan Mathis because of a contract dispute.

Allen Barbre is the projected starter at left guard and Matt Tobin is the projected right guard although coach Chip Kelly has said the competition is open and includes veterans Andrew Gardner and Dennis Kelly.

Moffitt started 15 games in two seasons with Seattle before being dealt to Denver in 2013 for defensive tackle Sealver Siliga. Moffitt, a Wisconsin product, never played an offensive snap for the Broncos and then retired in November.
