Ray Didinger: Eagles made too many changes too soon

Count CSN Eagles analyst Ray Didinger among the skeptics of Chip Kelly's overhaul of the Eagles' roster.

In an appearance on The Comcast Network's Breakfast on Broad on Monday morning, Didinger argued that Kelly and the Eagles attempted to make too many changes in one offseason — particularly at quarterback.

"The history of the league over time is that teams that have this kind of turnover in one year, that change this many players — you're talking about maybe nine different starters next year, including a new quarterback — it's very rare that a team comes out and plays well that next season," Didinger said.

Granting the point that Kelly is attempting to build a roster of "his" guys, excising the vestiges of Andy Reid's tenure, Didinger was dissatisfied with the prospect of Sam Bradford opening the year as the Eagles' starting quarterback.

"If you come out of this whole thing and Sam Bradford's your quarterback, I wouldn't have done that. I wouldn't have paid the price that they paid," Didinger said. "I would have given Nick Foles one more year to show you what he really can be." Foles was traded to the Rams for Bradford back on March 10.

While Foles posted a 15-9 record as the Eagles' starting quarterback before missing the final eight games of 2014 with a broken collarbone, Bradford missed all of 2014 after re-tearing his ACL during the preseason.

Didinger grants the possibility that Kelly will have the last laugh in the end.

"Maybe Kelly is as smart as he thinks he is," Didinger said. "I hope so."
