Nearly every injury the Flyers have had this season has its roots based on a player sacrificing himself to block a shot.
You can add Michael Raffl’s name to that casualty list as well.
The Flyers' leading goal scorer blocked Mark Fayne’s shot with 12:12 left in the third period, struggled to get to his feet, finished his shift and had one more brief shift during Tuesday’s 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers (see game recap).
A grim-faced Ron Hextall called it a lower-body injury.
“We’ll know more probably [Wednesday],” the general manager said.
Hextall refuses to feel the Flyers have hit an injury jinx this season. They had 204 man games lost due to injury last season -- their lowest total since 1999-2000 when they had 187.
To give you an idea of what they usually get, they had 275 man games lost due to injury in 2011-12.
“We had a lot of good breaks last year, so to speak,” Hextall said. “This year, they’re kinda going the other way. That’s why you got to have depth.”
